I recently got this compliment which says "I am a good talkative person" but this compliment doesn't end here, they say "I am not a good listener" and some people make it worse saying - "I CAN'T be a good listener". And HENCE I can't call it a compliment anymore because it's kinda pointing out my weakness at something.
बोलो.. ये भी कोई बात हुई? :( भला.!!! मैं भी क्या ज़्यादा बोलती हू? नही नही, आप ही बताओ
I am sure you are laughing at this now. :( I was thinking to prove that I am a good listener but for that, someone has to talk, right? I think some people just don't speak. They need people who can ask them something and then they can talk otherwise they themselves do not find any topic to talk. Is it my fault that I can make a person talk to me on phone for 1+ hour, who actually claims to be unable to talk much with people on phone? Now If I leave things as it is, those friends of mine will never call up.
I should do something, but what should I do? For now, I have decided to reduce talking. Let's see how it goes! If people feel better with this then may be I was taking them for granted to listen to me.

Well, I guess u belong to MBA category, where people have to do lot of talking :)
We belong to Geek category, so kinda we dont listen, we just do what feel is right.
In a sense, what you talk is right, what you dont listen is also equally right. :D

:) These resolutions hardly stay. After the slump(we being conscious, and lot of surprised faces), it slowly gains (our habit takes over) to normality...
Does this holds good fou you too?
An experience.. revisited quite a few times...
I dont think so. What you talk makes sense. And you don't expect people to like it if you stop talking. Things should happen gradually.
You are trying to put a figure on the number of words you speak or listen… So did you actually listen to the person who made that comment?
Hi Sridhar,
:) Thanks for telling my category as MBA type :)
But I am not a Geek.. pleaseeee.... And your comment is quite amusing..Thanks
Hi Sathish,
May be you are right that it doesn't stay longer. And Let me say that this is not my resolution. It's just that I am practising less talking. I have not stopped talking :) And I wish to continue with this less talking thought though..
Moreover, I have not stopped writing.. my thoughts will still flow..

hi there.. I have not stopped talking and trust me, I don't think I ever want to do that because If I stop talking, my mind will keep talking and then I will become a psycho.. ;)
But I am looking forward to reduce talking. I see people getting irritated sometimes when I take them for granted and keep talking. SO - why feel bad about after knowing their reaction about it? And Anyway, if my talking/not-talking doesn't matter to them, then that means I don't mean anything to them. And I should not waste my energy there.
All said and kept aside, certainly the idea of reduced talking is to build the capability of becoming a listner, nothing else.
hey krupa! dont ever stop talkin!!tht's supposed to be one of ur strengths!
n abt nt listening,i think u gotta ask tht que to urself whether u were also thinkin abt the other person's response or waitin fr him/her to speak ,or not.
bt i personally never felt u were not a good listener...its jst tht we "less talkers" feel speech is silver and silence is golden!bt actually wen u dont speak much u r bound to listen!n u wont believe i ve started to talk quite a bit!n listener toh i ws a good one always!wat say??
n u r gud th way u r!dnt speak less !
ps:n yes i do visit ur blog..[:P]
All the best :)
Is it fact that, when one gets reduced in a system, an other opens up more to occupy the space?... meant writer to gain more left by the talker.
Richard Sire,
your comment was touchy :) I am flattered by knowing the fact that 'talking' can be perceived as one of my strengths. Truly appreciate it.
Yaar.. ghani vakhat evu thai jay chhe pan.. :( umm..
I will try to stay the way I am. I know I have earned good friendships in my life so far that people can accept me the way I am. And those who don't, may be they don't deserve that.:) I have complete faith. But you know, sometimes it's a good idea to change a bit to deal with your own expectations and I am trying to do that. :)
Maam... "ghani vakhat evu thai jay chhe pan" yeh kya hai? :-?
A sentence in Gujarati as a part of conversation with a gujarati friend.
Is Richard a Gujarati? :-?
